Mobile Phones

Why forbid pupils to use their mobile in class? Whatever you say or do, they will always play with them during the lesson anyway. In that case, may as well use this technology in our teaching!

Castlebrae, thanks to 20-20 Vision funding, has invested in mobile phones for S5-6 pupils to use.
The piloting is done in a few departments (IT, Science and Modern Languages) and if all is going well, will be spread to the rest of the school, and maybe to other schools too?

Reasons to use a mobile phone: 101 Uses for a Mobile Phone

For Modern Languages, you could get the kids to:
  • record their Speaking homework as MP3
  • send you their homework by bluetooth
  • go to the German Christmas market and video interview native speakers
  • access internet grammar sites (they always say they have internet at home, but do they have to fight with their big brother to be allowed to touch the computer?)
  • email you their essay
  • and much more...

At the moment, the ML department is researching more opportunities and looking for software to be used on mobile.
